Behind the scenes photos from Funjet Vacations’ live virtual tours

Earlier this month, travel agents from all over the world signed onto from their personal computers in order to watch eight virtual tours of the Rivera Maya, airing live from Mexico’s famed Xcaret Ecological Park.

The first of its kind, this exciting online broadcast allowed Funjet Vacations to show our travel agents a first-hand glimpse into the better than ever, post-Wilma Rivera Maya and to provide them with an opportunity to ask experts in the destination questions regarding current tourism and hotel conditions.

Funjet Vacations representative Zephne Du Plessis was in the Mayan Riviera throughout the broadcasts, and was excited to share some of the colorful, behind the scenes pictures she took throughout the event.

Shot over the course of a week, the virtual tours aired live from an impressive stage located in the Riviera Maya’s famed Xcaret Ecological Park.

With help from the dedicated team at IBCTV, Funjet Vacations was able to field live questions about the Riviera Maya from travel agents all around the world.

Before each show, the Mayan Dancers at Xcaret performed an ancient ritual to rid the stage of evil spirits.

Throughout the virtual tours, destination experts fielded questions about current tourism in the Riviera Maya. Here Funjet Vacations’ Riviera Maya Live host Tammy Lee interviews Jan McCaughan of Iberostar Resorts.

After a week of hard work, host Tammy Lee and the team of destination experts celebrate the successful final taping of the live virtual tour.

Stay tuned to this blog and Funjet Vacations' websites for consumer versions of the Funjet Vacations virtual tours, which will soon be made available for your viewing pleasure.

Funjet Vacations' travelers talk about their trips to the Riviera Maya

In an effort to spread the good word about the beautiful Riviera Maya, Funjet Vacations asked some of our clients (who have traveled to the area since Hurricane Wilma) to tell us about their trips. Here is what they had to say:

Funjet Vacations: Tell us about your overall experience in the Riviera Maya.

“I expected (Playa del Carmen) to be very effected by the hurricane, but I was pleasantly surprised. The RIU Palace Mexico was fabulous, beautiful and in terrific condition. I would go back in a minute.” Sherry (Portland, Oregon)

“We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in the Riviera Maya. We were treated like royalty at El Dorado Seaside Suites, and the staff went above and beyond to assure all of our needs were met. The workers have done an excellent job with restoration and the grounds and the beaches look great.” Joanne (Los Angeles, California)

“This was the best vacation we have every had! El Dorado Seaside Suites was unbeatable, the people were friendly, and the weather was great.” Stephanie (Little Rock, Arkansas)

Testimonial from Texas travel agent, Diane Darcy

As travel agents and travel enthusiasts flood back into the Riviera Maya, Funjet Vacations has received more and more positive feedback about the great things happening in the area.

After returning from a recent trip to the Mayan Riviera, travel agent Diane Darcy of Texas’ Dream Vacations was excited to let other travel agents and travelers know about the wonderful progress she saw during her visit.

“I just returned from a small trip to Playa del Carmen with Funjet Vacations” Darcy said, “And, if there is one thing I can say, it is just sell Playa del Carmen! It is wonderful.”

Riu Palace Mexico

“Our host hotel was the Riu Palace Mexico. The beach in the Playa area is bigger and as good as it ever was. The Riu was a very nice hotel with hard beds and good food. The decor is beautiful and for weddings they have a courtyard with a gazebo that is wonderful. We saw one taking place and they all walked down these beautiful stairways through the courtyard where the guest were seated and then the bride and groom went into the gazebo for their vows. IT IS A Great place for a wedding party! The foliage was in bloom and beautiful too.”

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort

“This is a huge resort GREAT for families. The kid’s pool has water slides and a play ground. It was a much nicer property than I thought it would be. It has a huge entertainment complex for their nightly entertainment (and) they have more chairs on the beach than people that can stay there so you never have to fight for a lounge chair!"

El Dorado Seaside Suites

“This is my new favorite place. I have sold in many times but now I understand what the raves are about. The rooms are gorgeous, roomy, all suites with a Jacuzzi for 2, hammock on the patio and beautiful furnishings. As usual, food is a big deal to the El Dorado properties. It is all gourmet. NO BUFFETS anywhere! And believe me, from first hand, that the food is fabulous. Both hotels have these double beds that swing under shade with gauze drapes for privacy on the beach and lots of beach chairs. Both hotels had a lot of sand damage, but now they have bigger beaches than before. I am ready to go back here for a stay myself now.”

Royal Porto Real Resort & Spa

“If you have clients that want to be close to town with a beautiful room and resort, this is the place. All rooms have a Jacuzzi in the room (and are) very detailed in decor and beautiful!!! The food was also very good.”

Thanks Diane for that wonderful feedback! If you or someone you know has just returned from a trip to the Riviera Maya, we would love to hear about the trip! Whether you are sending us an e-mail or simply posting a comment, Funjet Vacations is eager to help spread the word about the Riviera Maya.

La Casa del Agua: "Jazz en Vivo"

When on vacation, the last thing you want to do is stay inside the hotel room; that’s why it is good to know that after the sun goes down on Playa del Carmen, travelers can find a wonderful supply of entertainment at the Riviera Maya’s bustling Fifth Avenue. If an evening of delicious food, rich wines, and live jazz music sounds like fun, popular local eatery La Casa del Agua is a must see.

Listed by “Conde Nast Traveler” magazine (May 2002) as one of the “50 Best New Restaurants in the World,” La Casa del Agua is simply a restaurant with magical ambiance. Located in the heart of downtown Playa del Carmen, it offers a variety of Mexican dishes, international cuisine, delicious seafood; and, as a perfect compliment to each unique dish, guests have a selection of over 170 different wines. On another note, if you visit La Casa del Agua on Friday nights, for no additional charge, the restaurant plays hosts to the jazz stylings of some of the area’s most talented musicians.
